THE KILLERS ARE OUR GUESTS (1974)

Directed by Vincenzo Rigo, Italy. After a bungled jewel robbery which leaves one of their number with a bullet wound, a gang of thieves take refuge in a local doctor’s house. The usual hostage thriller ingredients (getting rid of unwanted visitors, rapey bad guys, etc.) then mechanically click into place. Unfortunately, it’s all a little flat and uninteresting, and the move into a giallo-like tone in the final ten minutes really stretches the overall plot’s credibility. Thankfully, the presence of one of my favourite Italian genre actresses, the beautiful Margaret Lee, kept my attention from wandering but, still, this is no classic. 3/5.
