Directed by Will Cowan, U.S.A. A chest containing the decapitated head of sixteenth-century satanist Gideon Drew is unearthed on a remote ranch and proceeds to cause mayhem and murder in this classic chunk of macabre craziness. We get to see the leathery noggin in a hat box and sitting on a shelf in a wardrobe. Two torpedo-breasted female characters get taken over by the evil Drew; in classic fifties style, their possession by devilish forces is signalled by their suddenly becoming either sexualised or bitchy. Psychotronic writer Michael Weldon calls this “pretty bad” but I think it’s great fun. 4/5.
