Real-life husband and wife Noel Marshall and Tippi Hedren, along with their real-life children, star as a family terrorised by big cats in a definite contender for the maddest movie ever made. Infamous as the most dangerous film shoot ever, it’s fascinating to see the pure fear etched on the actors’ faces as gigantic lions jump at them. There’s a bizarre tone to the whole thing: there’s a chipper, Disneyesque atmosphere but at the same time this is a genuinely pulse-pounding “animals on the attack” horror movie, featuring real injuries, real screams, and real blood. Astonishing. 5/5.
