Directed by Ciaran Foy, U.S.A./U.K. I enjoyed SINISTER very much but this sequel, while still delivering the requisite scares, is slightly less effective overall. Nevertheless, it’s still decent. The plot’s similar to the first: Babylonian demon Bughuul claims children’s souls after forcing them to murder their families. Said murders are filmed by the possessed children and these flickering home movies form the basis of most of the shock sequences here. Likeable characters and plenty of genuine eeriness are not completely undermined by some silliness towards the end and an over-reliance on “scary kids.” One can’t help also wondering about the mechanics of how the little boy got his entire family up onto giant crosses for the final sacrifice. 4/5.
