Directed by Lamont Johnson, U.S.A./Canada. Peter Strauss stars as Wolff, a futuristic loner on a mission to rescue three Earth women who’ve crash-landed on a plague-ridden planet and been captured by mad tyrant Overdog (a semi-recognisable Michael Ironside). A mash-up of bits from the Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and Mad Max movies, SPACEHUNTER is an entertaining slice of action-filled sci-fi with engaging characters (especially a fun Molly Ringwald), excellent set design, and a rousing score by Elmer Bernstein. This gets a lot of online hate from some reviewers, who’d no doubt rather be watching a po-faced Ingmar Bergman film and pretending to enjoy it. 4/5.
